On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Argyle Street for the report of a firearms offence. Two people were approached by a male who demanded money and threatened to shoot them. The male revealed a firearm, then left the scene.
A male matching the description of the suspect was located by police in the area of 5th Avenue and Argyle Street. When police informed the male he was under arrest, the male fled between houses. A foot chase ensued and the male was arrested on the 1000 block of Argyle Street. A loaded sawed-off shotgun was seized.
A 16 year-old male youth, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- 2 X Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibition Firearm [CC 430(4)];
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm With Ammunition [CC 95(1)(A)];
- 4 X Possession of Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Careless Storage of Firearm [CC 86(2)];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90];
- Resist Arrest [CC 129(A)];
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)];
- Fail to Comply [YCJA 137].
The youth made his first appearance on these charges in Youth Provincial Court this morning, Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
