On May 31, 2026, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police were dispatched to Froom Crescent for a report of a mischief. The caller reported that an adult male, who was known to them, was throwing rocks at their car.
When police arrived at the address, they quickly located the suspect. As the officer approached the suspect, he became confrontational, reached into his pocket and pulled out what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at the officer. The officer determined the firearm was not real and safely brought the suspect into custody without further incident. The item was ultimately determined to be a lighter designed to resemble a firearm.
As a result of this investigation, 45 year-old Maurice JOHNSON was charged with:
- Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence [CC 85(2)(A)];
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88]; and
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon [CC 270.01(1)(A)].
JOHNSON made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court today (June 1, 2026).
