As per The Saskatchewan Police Act, 1990, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (*SIRT) is now investigating an officer-involved, non-fatal shooting that occurred early this morning in Regina.
At approximately 2:10 a.m. police were called to a residence in the 800 block of Elphinstone Street for a report of an adult male discharging a crossbow and threatening occupants inside the residence.
Officers arrived on scene, entered the residence and located three people inside. Two occupants, an adult female and a male youth, were safely evacuated.
During the response, an altercation occurred between the adult male and police. Two officers discharged their firearms, injuring the adult male. Officers provided first aid on scene until EMS arrived and transported the male to hospital to be treated for, what appeared to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
We understand this incident is of public interest and ask for patience as the facts are gathered. Because this is an active SIRT investigation, no further information will be provided by the Regina Police Service. Additional information will be provided by SIRT as it becomes available.
Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact SIRT.
*SIRT is an independent, civilian-led organization responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police officers in Saskatchewan.
