At approximately 12:45 a.m. on May 5, 2026, police officers observed a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner in the 1400 block of 14th Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in the 1100 block of Montague Street on May 4, 2026. Officers initiated a traffic stop, however, the driver failed to comply and fled the area.
The vehicle continued through nearby streets and alleys, evading police while committing numerous traffic violations, including speeding, driving without headlights, entering oncoming lanes, crossing medians, traveling through parks and pedestrian pathways and failing to obey traffic lights and signs. Officers did not actively pursue the vehicle but, with the help of multiple units, were able to track it.
A Tire Deflation Device (TDD) was successfully deployed near the 1800 block of Albert Street, and the vehicle eventually came to a stop. The male suspect fled on foot and was located a short time later hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1800 block of Angus Street.
The male suspect was taken into custody without further incident. As a result of this investigation,
Twenty-nine year-old Preston CHAMAKESE, is charged with:
- Flight from Peace Officer [CT 320.17];
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Alcohol or a Drug or Combination [CT 320.14(1)(A)];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 [CC 355(B)];
- Operation of a Conveyance while Prohibited [CT 320.18(1)(A)];
- Fail to Comply with Condition of an Undertaking [CC 145(4)(A)];
- Operate Conveyance Dangerous to Public [CT 320.13(1)]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 [CC 355(A)].
CHAMAKESE will his make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court this afternoon on May 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
