Three people are charged after investigation into Regina’s third homicide of 2024.
On Saturday, June 29, 2024, shortly after 10:15 p.m., police and EMS were dispatched to the 1900 block of McIntyre Street for the report of a male who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. Despite attempts at life-saving measures by police and EMS the 25 year-old male was deceased. A death investigation began, with officers securing the immediate area and requesting the additional resources of the Regina Police Service Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification units, as well as the Coroner, who confirmed the death to be the result of homicide.
Investigation into this incident led to suspects, which included a 29 year-old male who became the subject of a Canada-wide Warrant. On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the male was located and arrested on warrant in the area of 3rd Avenue and Garnet Street. Two other suspects, a 29 year-old female and a 40 year-old female, were also arrested and charged.
As a result, 29 year-old Skyler OCHUSCHAYOO, of Regina, is charged with:
- First Degree Murder [CC 235(1)]; and
- Possess Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)].
Twenty-nine year-old Dakota SANGWAIS, of Regina, is charged with:
- First Degree Murder [CC 235(1)].
Forty year-old Shanette Pauline BIGKNIFE, of Regina, is charged with:
- Accessory After the Fact to Murder [CC 240].
The accused made their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
