At approximately 1:10 a.m. on May 3, 2026, patrol officers observed a truck drive through a red light at the intersection of Winnipeg Street and 5th Avenue at a high rate of speed. Due to the speed and risk to public safety, ground Patrol units did not pursue the vehicle.
The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) took over and began tracking the vehicle as it traveled through residential streets, alleys and major roadways. At times, the vehicle traveled at speeds upwards of 100 km/h on roadways and also drove through yards and a park before leaving the city eastbound on Highway 46. The truck eventually came to a stop at the dead-end of a range road just outside of the city. ASU directed Patrol and Tactical Support Unit officers to the location.
Officers arrived on scene and deployed several tire deflation devices on the roadway. Due to safety concerns, a police drone was used to approach the vehicle and announce police presence. At this time, the suspect driver started to travel back towards the highway, driving over top of the tire deflation devices. The suspect driver turned west on to Highway 46 and the truck came to a stop a short distance later as it had no tires due to the successful deployment of the tire deflation device.
Officers approached the vehicle. Three occupants were inside. The driver, a 16 year-old male, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Operate Conveyance Dangerous to Public [CT 320.13(1)]; and
- Flight from a Peace Officer [CT 320.17].
The youth will make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Youth Court on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 9:30 a.m.
