Two people are facing numerous charges after evading police during an attempted traffic stop.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. last night, April 30, 2026, officers patrolling in the area of 5th Avenue and Garnet Street observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle but attempted to follow from a distance. The driver ran a red light at 7th Avenue and Lewvan Drive, before heading west on Lewvan Drive. Officers attempted a traffic stop near Regina Avenue but the driver did not stop. A short time later, officers in another car observed the suspect vehicle puling into the parking lot of a business on Harvard Way.
The driver, an adult male, was taken into custody without further incident. The female passenger fled the scene and, following a short foot chase and a brief struggle, she was taken into custody.
A search, subsequent to arrest, resulted in officers locating and seizing the following:
- A quantity of Methamphetamine
- Items associated with drug trafficking
- Bear Spray
As a result of this investigation,
Forty year-old Douglas HABERSTOCK is charged with:
- Possession of Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking [CDSA 5(2)];
- Flight from Peace Officer [CT 320.17]; and
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88].
Forty year-old Vanessa NEWTON is charged with:
- Resist Arrest [CC128(a)];and
- Identity Fraud [CC 403(1)(A)].
Both HABERSTOCK and NEWTON made their first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court this morning, May 1, 2026 at 9:30 a.m.
