A 22 year-old male is facing 11 charges related to possession of weapons and assaulting a police officer.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning (August 16, 2025), officers were in the area of 13th Avenue and Osler Street when they observed a male walking in the area who was acting suspiciously. Officers pulled over and tried to engage in a conversation with the male. At this point, the male dropped his backpack and began running. Officers chased the suspect on foot to an empty parking lot near Victoria Avenue. The suspect stopped running, pulled a machete from the pocket of his pants and threw it at one of the officers.
The officer was not injured. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the suspect and his backpack, subsequent to arrest, turned up multiple knives and a loaded firearm. The suspect was treated for minor injuries consistent with running with a machete in one’s pocket.
