On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, police received a report that a rental storage truck had not been returned to the rental business. Police contacted the renter and determined that the vehicle had been taken from the renter without their consent.
On the night of Friday, March 8, 2024, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Regina Police Patrol Officers located the storage truck and attempted a traffic stop at Scarth Street and 3rd Avenue North. The storage truck initially pulled over, then immediately took off. The truck was observed passing through stop signs and continuing at high rates of speed. The Regina Police Service Aerial Support Unit were following the fleeing vehicle and observed it come to a stop in the 2100 block of Rothwell Street. The two male occupants got out, and ran into a residence on the 1500 block of Greer Court. Members of the Canine Unit tracked the suspects into the residence where they immediately located and arrested one of the suspects, a 47 year-old male. A search by the Canine Unit located the second male hiding in the residence. The 48 year-old male suspect was bit by the police service dog, and police transported the male suspect to hospital for treatment of his injury.
A search of the rental storage truck yielded break-in instruments and further investigation determined that the males had broken into a storage unit in addition to taking the rental truck without consent. The suspects were also found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest and were in breach of conditions. The males were charged for these offences.
Forty-eight year-old Ronald POTOMSKI, and 47 year-old Chad William ODSEN, both of Regina, are jointly charged with:
- Break and Enter and Commit [CC 348(1)(B)]; and
- Possession of Break-In Instruments [CC 351(1)].
ODSEN is also charged with:
- Disguise with Intent [CC 320.13(1)]; and
- Fail To Comply With Condition of a Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)].
POTOMSKI is also charged with:
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent [CC 335];
- Dangerous Drive [CC 320.13(1)];
- Flight from Peace Officer [CC 320.17]; and
- Fail To Comply With Condition of a Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)].
The accused made their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Monday, March 11, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
