A 27 year-old male is facing charges following two separate robberies in less than 24 hours.
The first robbery was reported on January 10, 2024. At approximately 11:00 p.m., police were called to a convenience store in the 100 block of Albert Street North for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Officers from the Robbery Unit, Patrol and Canine Units all attended to the call. The victim, an employee at the business, reported that the suspect entered the business and spent about 40 minutes inside before approaching the victim at the till and demanded cash. The suspect told the victim he had a gun. The victim gave the suspect a small amount of cash before the suspect fled the scene. Officers were unable to locate the suspect at the time.
The following day, January 11, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers were called to a restaurant in the 3700 block of Chuka Boulevard for a report of a second robbery. When they arrived, officers spoke with victims and learned that the suspect came in, walked up to the till, told employees he had a gun and demanded cash. The suspect grabbed a small amount of cash out of the register and fled the scene.
Investigation led police to another business nearby where they were able to view surveillance footage that showed the suspect getting into a taxicab and leaving the area. Officers were able to track the suspect to a location in the 400 block of Albert Street. At this location, the suspect jumped out of the cab and left without paying. Patrol units were on scene and quickly located the suspect. He was arrested without further incident.
Further investigation revealed the suspect was responsible for both the January 10 and January 11, 2024 robberies.
