On Sunday, January 21, 2024, at approximately 1:25 p.m., police were dispatched to the 400 block of N Albert Street for the report of a weapons offence involving bear spray. A group of youth, one carrying bear spray, entered a retail business and threatened a security guard, then left. Police arrived and located the suspect, who was arrested without incident.
A search upon arrest revealed bear spray, an Airsoft pistol, and a large knife. Through investigation, police learned that the youth had recently attempted to rob a 17 year-old female. The male was charged for weapons offences, the robbery, and breach of conditions of an undertaking not to possess weapons.
A 16 year-old male youth, who cannot be charged in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon [CC 267(A)];
- Robbery [CC 344(1)(B)];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90]; and
- Fail to Comply with Condition of an Undertaking [CC 145(4)(A)].
The youth made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court today, January, 22, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
