A 20 year-old man is facing charges following an incident that occurred early Saturday morning.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, officers were patrolling in the area of 12th Avenue and Lorne Street when they observed a vehicle driving the wrong way down a one-way street. The driver also went through a red light. Officers attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle kept driving and refused to stop for police. A short time later, the vehicle was spotted by another Patrol unit in the area of 4th Avenue and Pasqua Street.
Officers waited for the vehicle to come to a stop in an alley near the 1400 Block of King Street. The suspect driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Three other occupants remained in the vehicle. The Canine Unit tracked the suspect driver to the back yard of a residence where they found him hiding in between a fence and a shed. The suspect refused to come out and officers deployed the Police Service Dog to assist. During the arrest, the suspect kicked the officer in the head. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to hospital to be treated for dog bite injuries before being taken to RPS Detention Cells.
As a result of this investigation, 20 year-old Ryden DILLON-GIROUX is charged with:
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest [CC 270(1)(B)];
- Flight from Peace Officer [CC 320.17];
