A 27 year-old female is facing charges after fleeing at a high rate of speed from a police traffic stop last night.
On Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at approximately 7:25 p.m., members of the RPS Aerial Support Unit (ASU) located a vehicle that was related to a recent investigation into an assault with a weapon. ASU officers notified ground units of the vehicle’s location and Patrol officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Albert Street near 1st Avenue. A Patrol officer approached the drivers’ side of the vehicle, confirmed the identity of the driver and informed the female driver she was under arrest for assault with a weapon. The female drove away from police at a high rate of speed. ASU followed the vehicle from the air as it continued driving down Albert Street. Due to heavy motorist and pedestrian traffic in the area, ASU waited until the vehicle was parked to guide Patrol officers to its location.
Patrol officers and members of the Canine Unit attended to the 700 block of Robinson Street. ASU notified ground officers that the female suspect had exited the vehicle and was hiding nearby. A Canine Unit team attended to her location and she was taken into police custody. The Police Service Dog did not make contact with the suspect. As a result:
