A 47 year-old male is facing multiple firearms charges following an incident on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
At approximately 7:40 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of McIntyre Street. Initial information received was that several female suspects and one male suspect had arrived at that location. One of the suspects attempted to steal a set of keys and another threated the victim with a firearm. The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) was able to quickly get eyes on the location. From the air, officers observed four people running to a nearby residence and go inside. A fifth person got into a truck in the area,
Patrol officers and members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team arrived on scene. Five females were taken into custody, four from inside the residence and a fifth who was standing in the immediate area. Four of the five females were released without charges. The fifth was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Further investigation turned up a male suspect hiding in a crawlspace inside the residence. He was arrested without further incident. A search of the area turned up a CO2 handgun under a wooden walkway outside the residence. Ammunition and CO2 cartridges were located inside of the truck.
As a result of this investigation, 47 year-old Thomas Randall MATYCHUK is charged with:
- Assault With a Weapon [CC 257(A)];
- Pointing a Firearm [CC 87(1)];
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88]; and
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon [CC 90].
MATYCHUK made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on June 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
