At approximately 8:10 a.m. this morning (May 14, 2025), officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 Block of Athol Street for a report of a theft. Information received was that two dogs were taken, without permission, from another residence and were believed to be at this address.
Officers arrived and engaged in a conversation with a person outside the residence. As the person turned to go back inside the home, two dogs ran out the front door and towards one of the officers.
The officer discharged their firearm, injuring one of the dogs. Officers provided first aid to the dog, on scene, before transporting the animal to a vet clinic for further medical attention.
The incident remains under investigation. As a firearm was discharged, the occurrence will be reviewed by the Regina Police Service Use of Force Review Board. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
