On the early morning of Monday, July 29, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of 7th Avenue and Montreal Street for the report of a firearms offence. Information provided was that a taxi cab driver had picked up a male and female fare. On the way to the destination, the male and female were arguing. The driver pulled over and asked both to leave the vehicle. Once the male exited, he pointed a firearm at the driver.
An area search was conducted and both suspects were arrested without incident near 4th Avenue and Argyle Street.
A 17 year-old male youth, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Committing an Offence Using a Firearm [CC 85 (1)(A)];
- Pointing a Firearm [CC 87];
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon [CC 90];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91 (1)];
- Failing to Comply with Condition of a Release Order [CC 145 (5)(A)];
- Failing to Comply with Sentence or Disposition x 2 [YCJA 137];
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order x 2 [CC 117.01(1)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Restricted Weapon [CC 91 (2)].
The youth is scheduled to make his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court this afternoon, Monday, July 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
