On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle driving in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Cavendish Street. While police were attempting to confirm that the vehicle was stolen, it fled at a high rate of speed, exiting the city on Winnipeg Street north bound.
Police were able to locate the vehicle on a grid road east of highway 10 which appeared to be pulled over with a damaged tire. Four occupants of the vehicle were identified and subsequently arrested without incident. A search of the vehicle and area revealed a firearm, ammunition and explosives.
As a result of this investigation, 32 year-old Torii KAKAKAWAY, 30 year-old Jordan FAYANT, 19 year-old Misti-Rain KAHNAPACE, and 26 year-old Brittany ADAMS are jointly charged with:
- Possession of an Explosive [CC 82(1)] X2;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Motor Vehicle [CC 94(1)]; and
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition [CC 95(1)]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 [CC 355(A)].
FAYANT is also charged with:
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)] X2;
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking [CC 145(4)(A)]; and
- Dangerous Operation of a Motorized Vehicle [CT 320.13(1)].
KAHNAPACE is also charged with:
- Fail to Comply with Conditions [CC 145(4)(A)]
ADAMS is also charged with:
- Breach of Conditional Sentence Order [CC 742.6(1)]
The accused made their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, July 29, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
