The Regina Police Service is notifying the public of what appears as use of rifles used in east Regina.
Biathlon Saskatchewan is delivering an interactive “Try Biathlon” session as part of a camp operated by Kare4Kids. The session will be delivered in the green space at W.S. Hawrylak School on Friday, July 19 from 2:45 to 4:45. We anticipate about 40 youth will have the opportunity to try biathlon. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.
At this session, camp participants will have the opportunity to try optical biathlon rifles. While optical biathlon rifles look like a genuine firearm, they do not shoot a projectile. Instead, they use camera technology to take a picture of the target and communicate with the user via an electronic display whether the picture taken is a “hit” or a “miss” on the target.
We are issuing this notice as the appearance of rifles in the area might cause alarm for neighboring citizens. Signage will be placed near entry points to the greenspace or around the biathlon event communicating to the public the equipment being used.
