On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 7:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Elphinstone Street for the report of a weapons offense in progress. Initial information indicated a group of youths bear sprayed and assaulted two victims outside of a bus stop and had fled.
Upon arrival, police located the victims who were treated and able to provide suspect descriptions. A short time later, officer’s located three suspects matching these descriptions walking southbound on Elphinstone Street. The suspects were arrested without incident.
As a result of this investigation, a 13 year-old youth, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon [CC 267(A)]
A second 13 year-old youth, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon [CC 267(A)]; and
- Fail to Comply X2 [CC 145(5)(A)].
A 14 year-old youth, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon [CC 267(A)]; and
- Fail to Comply [YCJA 137]; and
- Possession of a Wildlife Control Product in Urban Space [WCPR 4(1)].
The youths made their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court yesterday, July 2, 2024 at 2 p.m.
