An investigation is currently underway following reports of two weapons calls at two elementary schools in North Regina.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. this afternoon (December 14, 2023), School Resource Officers were called to a school in the 1900 block of 2nd Avenue North for a report of a bear spray incident involving a 12 year-old female victim. The victim was in the playground area when she was approached by two female youth suspects who sprayed her before fleeing the scene.
The suspects were seen a short time later at a school in the 200 block of Broad Street. Witnesses told police that one of the suspects had a firearm. When officers arrived at the school, the suspects fled. A short foot pursuit, involving SRO’s, Patrol and the Canine Unit, took place and the two were taken into custody. Due to the serious nature of the call for service and the presence of weapons, a police dog was used in the arrest. One of the suspects was treated for a dog-bite injury
The schools involved were put into “Secure-the Building” mode for a brief period of time during the incident. Those have since been lifted.
At this time the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has information that would help in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Regina Crime Stoppers at reginacrimestoppers.ca or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
