Charges have been laid in a homicide investigation resulting from a death investigation that began on Sunday October 8, 2023 after the discovery of a deceased female.
On October 8, 2023, at approximately 10:17 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on the 2000 block of Ottawa Street. When police arrived on scene, they discovered a 36 year-old female who was confirmed to be deceased. Investigation by the Regina Police Service Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, determined this death is a homicide.
The deceased was identified and next of kin were notified. The deceased is 36 year-old Jessica Anne MATECHUCK, of Regina.
Investigation led to a 38 year-old male, who was arrested on December 7 2023, and subsequently charged.
Thirty-eight year-old Gregory David KEEPNESS, of Regina, is charged with:
- Second-Degree Murder [CC 235(1)].
KEEPNESS makes his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court tomorrow morning, December 8, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
KEEPNESS was also deemed to be responsible for an unrelated stabbing assault of an adult female on October 8, 2023 which occurred on the 2100 block of Broder Street, and an unrelated robbery on October 18, 2023, where an adult male was also stabbed.
For these occurrences, KEEPNESS was also charged with:
- 2 X Attempt Murder [CC 239]; and
- Robbery [CC 344(1)(B)].
KEEPNESS made his first appearance on these charges on October 24, 2023, and has remained in custody.
