On June 14, 2022 the Regina Police Service received a report of fraud that involved a local contractor that was hired to complete home repairs in 2021. The contractor provided an estimate of work and requested a deposit payment from the victim. Upon receiving the payment the contractor failed to complete the home repairs and did not return the deposit payment to the victim.
Between June 2022 and December 2023, police received 48 similar reports involving the same contractor. The incidents occurred between April 2021 and June 2022 and the total reported loss to the victims was over $258,000.
On Wednesday December 6, 2023, members of the Financial Crimes Unit arrested a male in relation to this investigation.
Forty-three year-old Joseph Alan MYERS of Estlin, Saskatchewan, is charged with:
- Fraud Over $5000 [CC 380(1)(A)].
MYERS was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to make his first appearance on this charge in Provincial Court on Wednesday January 17, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
