A lengthy and detailed investigation by the Regina Police Service Financial Crimes Unit has resulted in fraud charges for a doctor who owns a practice in Regina.
Investigators began looking into the file after the Ministry of Health reported what they believed to be billing irregularities. The offences occurred between 2016 until 2019.
The doctor turned herself into police on November 27, 2023. As a result of this investigation, 53 year-old Dr. Oghenerukevwe UGWUMBA is charged with the following:
- Fraud Over $5,000 [CC380(1)(A)];
- Theft Over $5,000 [CC334(A)];
- Identity Theft [ CC 402.2(1)];and
- Criminal Breach of Trust [CC 336].
Dr. UGWUMBA will make her first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on January 10, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
