The Regina Police Service is committed to removing dangerous illicit drugs from the street. These efforts are ongoing as our police service continues to combat the opioid crisis in our community.
In the first seven months of 2023, officers have seized more than 10.4 kilograms of fentanyl – this is a significant number as extremely small quantities of the drug can be lethal. The 10.4 kilograms in seizures represents millions of potentially lethal doses and is the largest amount seized by the Regina Police Service in a single year to-date. Enforcement efforts will not slow down and this number is expected to rise by the end of this year.
In addition to fentanyl, the amount of cocaine and methamphetamine seized is also significant. Since January 2023, the following amounts have been taken off the street:
- Cocaine: 2,697 grams (2.6 kilograms)
- Methamphetamine: 9,226 grams (9.2 kilograms)
These illicit drugs were confiscated through 727 different seizures made by officers in our investigative units such as the Street Gang Unit, the Drug Unit and the Crime Reduction Team. Patrol officers have also played an important role. They often locate illicit drugs in the course of their duties conducting traffic stops and during routine calls for service and arrests.
