On Tuesday, June 13, 2023 shortly after 8:00 p.m, police were dispatched to the 2300 block of 12th Avenue for the report of an assault. A 14 year-old male approached a 15 year-old male, struck him, and assaulted him with a bladed weapon, causing serious yet not life-threatening injury. The 14 year-old then fled.
Police arrived and attended to the injured male, who was transported to hospital. Police searched the area, locating the suspect at Saskatchewan Drive and Hamilton Street. The male fled from police but was subsequently arrested. While in handcuffs the male attempted to escape custody, and was apprehended a short distance away. The bladed weapon used in this incident was not recovered.
A 14 year-old Regina male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Aggravated Assault [CC 268(1)];
- Resist Arrest [CC 129(A)]; and
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88].
The youth made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court today, Wednesday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m.
