Three youths face stolen vehicle charges after an arrest early this morning.
On the morning of Monday, May 8, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., police observed a truck at a high rate of speed in the area of 5th Avenue and Wascana Street. The vehicle disobeyed a red light at 7th Avenue turning southbound onto Lewvan Drive. Police attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle turned northbound onto Connaught Street were the vehicle stopped and occupants exited and fled. A canine track led to three occupants who hid from police. One of the suspects, a 17 year-old male, was bitten by canine. The three were apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.
The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and police learned that they had just been the victim of a break and enter into their residence where the keys and vehicle were stolen.
A 17 year-old male, a 14 year-old female, and a 12 year-old male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are each charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 [CC 355(A)]. The 17 year-old male also faces a charge of Failure to Comply with Disposition [YCJA 137].
The males make their first appearance on their charges in Provincial Youth Court today, Monday, May 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The 14 year-old female youth is scheduled to make her first appearance on June 20, 2023.
