A 42 year-old male from Edmonton, Alberta is facing over 100 charges in connection to alleged mail theft, identity theft and identity fraud.
On May 10, 2022, the Regina Police Service, received information that the man was unlawfully at large from Alberta and had been a suspect in several fraud files. The Regina Police Service Financial Crime Unit conducted surveillance on the individual and as a result an arrest was made on the 1900 block of Rupert Street in Regina. The investigation identified 178 victims of mail theft or fraud and the laying of 102 charges.
Forty-two year-old Brad WASELENCHUK, of Edmonton, AB, has been charged with:
- 29 x Forgery, s. 367 CC
- 29 x Identity Theft, s. 402.2(1) CC
- 17 x Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
- 10 x Personation with Intent to Obtain Certain Property, s. 403(1)(b) CC
- 6 x Possession of identity documents, s. 56.1(1) CC
- 5 x Possession of Controlled Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
- 2 x Identity Fraud, s. 403(1)(a) CC
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon, s. 90 CC
- Possession of a Weapon, s. 88 CC
- Possession of Stolen Mail, s. 356(1)(b); and
- Theft from Mail, s. 356(1)(a)(1) CC
WASELENCHUK made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial court at 9:30 a.m. today, Friday, May 27, 2022.
The Regina Police Service wants to remind the public that mail theft should be reported to police as this is an easy way for their personal information to be compromised resulting in potential identity fraud.
