A 29 year-old male, from Toronto, wanted in connection with a 2021 homicide in Ottawa, Ontario, is among a group of males arrested last Friday in Regina. The arrests came as part of enforcement action resulting from investigation into drug trafficking in the city of Regina.
On April 1, 2022, several police units went to an apartment building in Northwest Regina, on Little Pine Loop to execute a CDSA search warrant. The planned enforcement action involved the Regina Drug Unit (RDU), the Street Gang Unit, members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Canine units and Patrol. When police arrived on scene three of the suspects tried to escape out the balcony of the 4th floor apartment. One of the suspects fell from the balcony sustaining serious injuries. The other two suspects resisted arrest and were bitten by a police dog. All three individuals were transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries. Three other suspects were arrested at the scene without incident.
In the search police recovered a quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine; a loaded 9mm handgun which had been modified to be fully automatic with an over capacity magazine, a .45 caliber handgun with a full magazine beside it; approximately $55,000 in Canadian currency, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Arrested and charged in connection with the enforcement are: 28 year-old Abdiaziz Mohamed ABDI, of Edmonton, AB; 26 year-old Abdifatah ABDI of Edmonton, AB; 27 year-old Osmen BARR of Toronto, ON; 30 year-old Abdullahi MOALIN of Regina; 29 year-old Ahmed Abdi SIYAD of Toronto, ON; and 34 year-old Umer(Omer) Muhammad SYED of Regina.
Twenty-nine year-old Ahmed Abdi SIYAD was found to be the subject of an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for a homicide that occurred in Ottawa, Ontario, in May of 2021.
