A second person: a male youth, has been charged in connection with a November 1, 2021, homicide case in Regina; the victim is a 16 year-old female, of Regina*. There is one person already charged in connection with this case; that individual is also a male youth.
This investigation began on November 1, 2021, at about 2:06 a.m., when RPS Patrol members were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Rae Street for a report of a weapons offence. Police arrived and located a female, outside the residence, who appeared to be deceased. Several other resources were dispatched to the call. EMS confirmed the death. Patrol members secured the scene and began the investigation, taken over by Forensic Identification, the Coroner and Major Crimes shortly thereafter. On November 2nd, the case was confirmed to be a homicide, and on November 15th, a 15 year-old male youth was charged with Second-Degree Murder. The investigation continued and on March 29, 2022, a second male youth, 16 years old, was also arrested and charged.
This male youth cannot be identified in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, or YCJA. He is charged with Second-Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The youth appears in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. today (Wednesday), March 30, 2022.
*The Regina Police Service has not made the name of the deceased person public, in keeping with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Section 111(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits publishing the name of a child or young person identifying that young person as a victim of a crime committed, or alleged to have been committed, by another young person. An exception to this rule is contained in Section 111(2)(b), but it indicates the parents may name the deceased young person. In this case, the family of the deceased has released her identity to the media and public.
