Two males are charged with Attempted Murder and two females face weapons and assault charges after an incident earlier this week (Wednesday, February 2, 2022).
On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at approximately 8:51 p.m., several police units were dispatched to the 1600 block of Rae Street for a report of a firearm offence. A caller reported seeing a male exit a vehicle with a firearm and believed someone had been shot. A short time later, police communications received a call from a location a few blocks away, reporting that there were two people sheltering inside, one of whom had an apparent gunshot wound. The wounded victim: a 42 year-old male was taken to hospital with injuries described as critical. A second victim: a 30 year-old female appeared to have been involved in a physical altercation. Investigation led to a description of a suspect vehicle, which was located at about 11:38 p.m. driving in the area of Badham Boulevard and Broad Street. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested five people from the vehicle. Further investigation led to charges against four people; the fifth person was released with no charges. The victim remains in hospital.
Twenty-two year-old Phoenix Pierce SANGWAIS and 18 year-old Aiden Travis Junior JIM, both of Regina, are charged with Attempted Murder, contrary to section 239(1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code.
In addition Phoenix Pierce SANGWAIS is charged with:
- 2 X Possession of a firearm contrary to order, s. 117.01 CC;
- Breach of probation, s. 733.1(1) CC;
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, s. 95(1)(a) CC;
- Possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public peace, s. 88 CC;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 91(1) CC;
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle, s. 94(1)(a)(ii) CC;
- Robbery, s. 344(1)(b) CC (Sept. 19, 2021 robbery);
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence, s. 85(1)(a) CC (Sept. 19, 2021 robbery).
Twenty-one year-old Desiree Marie MORIN-JIM, of Regina, is charged with:
- Assault, s. 266 CC;
- Obstruction (false name), s. 129(a) CC; and
- Fail to comply with condition of release order, s. 145(5)(a) Cc.
Forty year-old Jacqueline Rose GIROUX (KEQUAHTOOWAY), of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public peace, s. 88 CC;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 91(1) CC;
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle, s. 94(1)(a)(ii) CC; and
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, s. 95(1)(b) CC.
SANGWAIS and MORIN-JIM made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. this morning, Friday, February 4, 2022.
JIM will make his first court appearance on the Attempted Murder charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on February 10, 2022
KEQUAHTOOWAY will make her first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on March 23, 2022.
