The Regina Police Services is advising Regina residents of some scenario-based training this evening involving members of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, or SWAT.
This evening – Wednesday, November 17th – from approximately 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., members of the Regina Police Service SWAT team will be conducting urban tactical training in the 1200 block of Rae Street and the 1300 block of Robinson Street. The actual training will be carried out at a residence on each of these blocks, with the permission of the property owner(s). Residents of these blocks have been advised of the training. There will be no live ammunition used in these exercises.
Residents and passers-by may notice police vehicles in these two locations, as well as a number of police personnel, engaged in the training exercises. The work of the Regina Police Service is carried out, almost exclusively, in an urban setting so it is imperative for SWAT team members to train in the same setting. All Regina Police Service personnel on Emergency Services teams (SWAT, Crisis Negotiators, Explosives Disposal Unit, Canine, etc.) train on a regular basis, throughout the year, in order to ensure their skills, tactics, teamwork, communication, and leadership are up-to-date.
The Regina Police Service thanks the residents of Regina, particularly those in the 1200 block of Rae Street and the 1300 block of Robinson Street, for their support and cooperation. Even though there is training in these areas this evening, anyone in this area of the city who is experiencing an emergency or sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1.
