An accidental discharge of a Regina Police Service firearm on the morning of November 16, 2021 is under investigation. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
Although this is a rare occurrence, even an accidental discharge of a firearm is reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission, subject to full investigation, and subject to review by the RPS Use of Force review committee. Because the circumstances of this incident are under investigation, there is little that can be confirmed at this time except to say that the discharge appears to have occurred inside a police vehicle with the blast directed upward through the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the 1400 block of Park Street at the time of the discharge (shortly after 7:00 a.m.). This event was not connected to an investigation or a call for service from the public.
As indicated, there were no injuries as a result of this discharge, either to a police member or member of the public. Any witness who has information to assist in the investigation is encouraged to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500.
