A 16 year-old male is charged with a weapons offence following investigation into a weekend incident.
On Friday, October 8, 2021, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police were dispatched to an address in the 700 block Cameron Street. Information received in the call indicated someone had pulled a firearm on another male inside a house at that location. It was believed there were several people inside the house. Police arrived and set up a safety perimeter. An officer was able to establish contact with a male who was later found to be the 28 year-old victim. The male victim exited the house through a window and police negotiated the remaining occupants out of the house peacefully. A search of the house and a suspect yielded a large knife, a substantial quantity of ammunition, and two improvised firearms. Further investigation led to charges against a 16 year-old male in connection with the firearm.
The accused male cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is charged with:
- Assault with a weapon, [267(a) CC];
- Use of imitation firearm in commission of an indictable offence, [85(2)(a) CC];
- Unauthorized possession of firearm, [91(1) CC]; and
- Store firearm contrary to regulations (unsafe storage), [86(2) CC].
The youth made his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
