The Regina Police Service is asking the public for information that may assist in an investigation into a suspicious male who was seen interacting with young children in a park over the weekend.
On Sunday, May 30, 2021 at approximately 3:20 p.m., police were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person. Early information suggested that a group of children under 12 were playing at Westhill Park in the 8100 block of Sherwood Drive at around 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. It is alleged that during that time, one of the children was approached by an unknown male, who asked the child some questions. The male was then alleged to have been seen trying to lead the child away from the park. Another child present intervened, took the child away, and the male then reportedly walked away. The group of kids returned home to report the encounter to their families.
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 40 years old, wearing a black coat and big, black sunglasses. The description is limited, but police are asking anyone who may have seen any unusual activity in the area on Sunday morning to contact police.
None of the children were physically harmed, but out of concern for the safety of the children, the Regina Police Service wants to make the community aware of the event. At this point, it is unclear what the male’s intentions were and police would like to learn more about the event through assistance from the public.
Anyone with information that can assist is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). The Regina Police Service thanks the public and the media for their assistance.
