On any given day, patrol officers start their shift with a headful of instructions to “be on the lookout for” people/vehicles/things during that shift. Early this morning (Wednesday), one such communication paid off with the recovery of an expensive stolen bike and an arrest.
At approximately 5:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, patrol officers spotted an individual riding a bicycle and noted that the bike matched the description of a stolen bike that had been previously circulated. Officers stopped the male and asked to check the serial number of the bicycle. The bike’s serial number matched that of a bike valued at almost $3,500., which had been stolen in a garage break and enter over a year ago. The male was arrested for possession of stolen property. During his arrest and search of the suspect, police seized a substantial quantity of a substance confirmed to be crystal meth. The male was subsequently charged.
Thirty-nine year-old Byron Arthur MECAS, of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, section 355(b) CC; and
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance, section 4(1) CDSA.
MECAS was released on conditions and will make his first court appearance on these charges before Provincial Court on October 20, 2021.
