Three individuals – all youths – who were arrested on Saturday night, in connection with a Robbery, have been charged and made first court appearances.
In this incident, police were dispatched at about 11:04 p.m., on Saturday, April 17, 2021, to a business in the 1700 block of McIntyre Street, for a report of a robbery-in-progress. When police arrived they spoke to staff members who reported that two females and a male had come into the business and attempted to steal merchandise. Staff members confronted the suspects at the door and were able to recover some of the stolen items, but in the struggle, one staff member sustained a cut to his hand. He was treated at the scene by EMS. A backpack containing a machete was left at the scene. Police located the suspects a short distance away and further investigation led to charges.
The youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A 17 year-old male, a 15 year-old female and a 14 year-old female are all charged with:
- Robbery [344(1)(b) CC]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 [355(b) CC].
The 17 year-old is also facing a charge of Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC].
All three accused have been released on conditions and will make their first court appearances on these charges before Youth Court on August 23, 2021.
