A 20 year-old male is facing firearms charges after an investigation and search for a suspect in the Heritage neighbourhood of Regina early this morning.
Just after midnight on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, police were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of Winnipeg Street for what turned out to be a call of several unwanted guests at the residence. When police arrived, the house was clear, but less than an hour later officers were again dispatched to the same address: this time for a report that one of the people who’d returned to the residence had a sawed-off shotgun. Police arrived and located a male matching the suspect description in the 1800 block of Quebec Street. They did not find a firearm on the suspect, and did not have evidence to detain him further. A short time later the original complainant called again to say he had found the firearm and directed police to the 1800 block of Toronto Street, to recover the firearm, which was loaded. Follow-up investigation took police back to the 1900 block of Winnipeg Street, where they located the suspect they’d detained earlier. It is alleged he pointed the loaded firearm at an adult male and also punched him in the head. The suspect was on two weapons prohibition orders.
Twenty year-old Rueban Jacob NAHBEXIE, of Regina, is charged with:
– Pointing a firearm [87 CC];
– Assault [266 CC]; and
– 2 X Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition [117.01(1) CC].
NAHBEXIE made his first court appearance on these charges before Provincial Court at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
