A 29 year-old male is facing numerous charges after investigation into a case of domestic-related forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.
At approximately 1:38 a.m., on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, several police units were dispatched to a domestic-related weapons offence in the 800 block of Empress Street. The female victim said her ex-boyfriend had forced his way into her suite a few hours earlier and had held her there at knifepoint. He also took her cellphone. The victim said the male struck her as many as 30 times over the course of about three hours before she was able to get away to a neighbour’s to call police. Police searched the victim’s apartment, but the suspect was gone. The victim was taken to hospital by EMS for treatment of her injuries. Further investigation led to police locating the suspect at a residence in the 900 block of Retallack Street at about 5:47 a.m. The male was arrested without incident and charged.
Publishing the accused male’s name could have the effect of jeopardizing the safety and privacy of the victim. Therefore, In order to protect the identity of the victim, the Regina Police Service will not make the accused male’s name public. This individual is charged with;
- Assault with a Weapon [267(a) CC];
- Forcible Confinement [279(2) CC];
- Assault by Choking [267(c) CC];
- Uttering Threats [264.1(1) CC];
- Theft under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and
- Breach of Undertaking [145(5)(a) CC].
The accused was held for court at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
