On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, members of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) team were travelling towards Regina on Highway 33 near Francis, Saskatchewan, when passed by a vehicle travelling at speeds in excess of the posted limit. Police observed both rear tail lights were broken out. Police pulled the vehicle over, and noticed an open box of beer in the back seat. When police examined further, they noticed a firearm in the vehicle, which upon inspection, was confirmed to be loaded. The lone occupant, a 23 year-old male, did not have a valid license to possess a firearm. A quantity of cannabis was also found.
The 23 year-old male was charged with SOTs for speeding, consuming alcohol in a vehicle, and consuming cannabis in a vehicle, as well as warnings for the Vehicle Equipment Regulation infractions. He was charged criminally for the firearm offence.
Twenty-three year-old Colby BRIDGEMAN, is charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)]; and
- Reckless Storage of a Firearm [CC 86(2)].
BRIDGEMAN was released on an undertaking for court in Weyburn Provincial Court on April 27, 2021.
