A 16 year-old youth is facing charges after investigation into a stolen auto by members of the RPS Stolen Auto Unit and Patrol.
On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at about 8:30 a.m., an investigator with the Stolen Auto Unit spotted a red Buick Allure (empty) that matched the description of an Allure reported stolen on February 19th. A check of the license plate showed that the plate did not belong to the Buick, but rather a black Pontiac Torrent. Police confirmed the parked vehicle was, in fact, the stolen auto and then followed it once the suspect returned and drove away. It stopped again in the 5100 block of Sherwood Drive and the suspect entered a house. Officers approached and spoke with the resident who allowed them in. A short time later, they arrested a 16 year-old male. Search of a backpack yielded ammunition, and registration papers for another stolen vehicle. Further investigation showed the male was wanted on a warrant and was also prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The youth cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is charged with:
- 2 X Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 [355(b) CC]; and
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [117.01(1) CC].
The youth made his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
