The Regina Police Service Unit provides maximum security for persons arrested by due process of law and held pending appearance in court.
The Unit is staffed on each of 4 shifts by a Sergeant, Corporal, and a Special Constable. Responsibilities of the staff include the safety of those in custody, fingerprint processing, serving of all documentation related to new criminal charges laid and escorts to court.
Also present during the night shift, is a Primary Care Paramedic whose responsibility is to provide medical care to those in custody.
The Detention Unit was designed to be a short term holding facility with 34 individual cells to house both adult and young offender individuals.
When conditions of release on certain charges are warranted, the Detention Unit will facilitate individuals release by a Justice of the Peace or by the Officer in Charge to prevent unnecessary detention of individuals.
