Arson/Collision Investigation Unit
The Arson/Collision Investigative Unit consists of one Sergeant and one Constable, who are tasked with coordinating and investigating arson cases (including both structure and non-structure fires) and all fatal motor vehicle collisions.
In arson investigations, the unit collaborates closely with the Fire Marshall and Fire Inspectors with Regina Fire & Protective Services, as well as insurance companies. These investigations can be complex. While the Fire Marshall and Fire Inspectors investigate a fire’s cause and origin, RPS arson investigators focus on the criminal aspect and holding offenders accountable.
Additionally, the unit oversees all fatal motor vehicle collision investigations, working in partnership with a Collision Reconstructionist from the RPS Traffic Safety Unit and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. Fatal collision investigations are often complex and lengthy. They require toxicology reports, coroner investigations, and detailed collision reconstructions.
