A 44 year-old male is facing charges after assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, a Patrol officer observed an unregistered vehicle driving in the area of Park Street and 10th Avenue. A short time later, the officer conducted a traffic stop involving the vehicle in the 600 block of 6th Avenue East. Despite repeated attempts by the officer to have the driver identify himself, the driver refused. At this time the suspect was outside his vehicle and the officer told the male he was under arrest. The suspect punched the officer twice and a struggle ensued. The officer attempted to deploy his CEW (Conducted Energy Weapon) but it was not effective. Following the short struggle, the suspect was taken into custody.
As a result, 44 year-old Randhal PHILIP of Theodore, SK is charged with:
- Assault of a Peace Officer [CC 270(1)(A)];
- Assault With Intent to Resist Arrest [CC 270(1)(B)];and
- Obstruct a Peace Officer [CC 129(A)].
PHILIP made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court this morning at 9:30 a.m.
