The Regina Police Service is now offering a space for the public to carry out face-to-face transactions related to online marketplace purchases.
The new “Safe Transaction Zone” is located in the parking area on the north side of RPS Headquarters (1717 Saskatchewan Drive). The zone is clearly marked with signage and features designated security cameras. The area is also well-lit.
So far, in 2025, police have received upwards of 75 reports of fraud and other crimes, like robbery, related to online transactions.
Acting Chief Lorilee Davies believes the new zone will make a difference in community safety.
“The Regina Police Service is constantly looking at ways to prevent crime and reduce victimization, she says. “Online buy and sell groups continue to grow in popularity, so we are pleased to be able to provide another tool for the public to keep themselves from falling victim to fraud or other criminal occurrences.”
While the zone is equipped by security cameras, it will not be monitored 24/7. If someone has a concern for their safety or believes they have been de-frauded, they are encouraged to report it in-person to officers at the RPS Inquiry Desk during regular business hours. After hours, please contact 9-1-1 in an emergency or 306-777-6500 in non-emergent situations. The Regina Police Service will not assist in negotiating civil property transactions in the Safe Transaction Zone or otherwise.
The Safe Transaction Zone is the newest addition to the Community ON. Community ON is Neighbourhood Watch reimagined for the world we live in today. There are more ways than ever for the public to take an active role in crime prevention. When our community is switched ON and we are working together, we have a greater chance of success when it comes to crime prevention. If you see something, say something. Working together, we can keep Regina safe.
