Two adult males are facing multiple firearms charges following a traffic stop on Saturday morning. Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on August 30, 2025, patrol officers on the ground were working with the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) investigating a series of break and enters in the 800 block of Athol Street. During the investigation, ASU officers observed a vehicle leaving the area where a male matching the description of the break and enter suspect was last seen.
Patrol ground units initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and one of the two male passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The Regina Police Service (RPS) Canine Unit tracked the suspect and found him hiding behind a large fence. The suspect ignored police commands to stop, once again running away from the area. He was arrested a short distance later by patrol officers.
The second suspect remained on scene and was arrested without further incident. The two males were not found to be responsible for the break and enters, however, a search of the vehicle subsequent to arrest resulted in the following items being located and seized:
- Loaded sawed-off rifle
- Loaded magazine
- Various quantities of illicit drugs
- Alcohol
As a result, 27 year-old Dylan POORMAN is charged with the following:
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Careless Storage of Firearm [CC 86(2)];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90];
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Motor Vehicle [CC 94(1)(a)(ii)];and
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm [CC 95(1)].
Thirty-nine year-old Justin MCKAY is charged with:
- 3 x Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)]
- Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Careless Storage of Firearm [CC 86(2)];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90];
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Motor Vehicle [CC 94(1)(a)(ii)];
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm [CC 95(1)];and
- Resist Arrest (129(A)].
Both MCKAY and POORMAN made their first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court, this morning (September 2, 2025) at 9:30 a.m.
