An adult male and adult female are facing multiple charges following an incident involving a stolen vehicle.
Shortly after midnight on June 19, 2025 an officer patrolling in the area of Lewvan Drive and Dewdney Avenue observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The vehicle was driving erratically. The officer immediately alerted the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) which began tracking the vehicle from the sky.
The stolen vehicle travelled out of the city on Highway 6 south and along several gravel roads before turning back onto Highway 6, this time, travelling north towards the city. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed, which slowed the rate of speed to approximately 40 km/h as the driver travelled through a residential area, eventually coming to a stop when the vehicle collided with a tree in the 3100 block of Grant Road.
Both occupants of the vehicle fled from the scene. ASU continued to track the suspects and helped direct the RPS Canine Unit on the ground. The female suspect was located by a Police Service Dog hiding in a backyard a short distance away. During the arrest, the Police Service Dog bit the suspect resulting in minor injuries to the suspect’s foot. She was taken to hospital to be treated for the injuries.
ASU continued to track the suspect driver, who was running through yards and green spaces. Eventually the male suspect climbed onto the roof of a residence on Daffodil Crescent. Officers on the ground were notified by ASU of the suspect’s location. A short conversation between officers and the suspect resulted in the suspect being taken into custody without further incident.
