On Sunday, December 22, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police were dispatched to Higgins Bay in Regina for the report of a firearm discharge.
Police arrived and observed two male youths fleeing the area on foot. The youths, aged 17 and 14, were arrested at a residence on Oakview Drive. Upon search, firearm ammunition was recovered on the 17 year-old, and bear spray on the 14 year-old. Further search of the arrested area by Regina Police Service Canine Unit revealed a firearm with ammunition.
It is not believed that anyone was hurt during the firearm discharge. During investigation, a 17 year-old female was found to be intoxicated, and in breach of court-ordered conditions not to possess or consume alcohol or drugs. She was also arrested and charged.
A 17 year-old male, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Fail to comply [YCJA 137];
- 2 X Possession of Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm [CC 95(1)(A)]; and
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession Unauthorized [CC 92(1)].
A 14 year-old male, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90];
- Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm [CC 95(1)(A)]; and
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession Unauthorized [CC 92(1)].
A 17 year-old female, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Fail to comply [YCJA 137].
The accused made their first appearances on these charges in Provincial Youth Court yesterday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
