On Monday, September 30, 2024, at approximately 7:10 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence on the 1300 block of Retallack Street for a firearms offence. Initial information indicated that there were firearms inside the residence.
As police were arriving, they witnessed a male running in the back alley with what appeared to be a firearm and enter another house.
Police arrived and cleared the residence. A search revealed two firearms, several gun parts, ammunitions and knives. As a result, a 27 year-old male was arrested without incident.
Twenty-seven year-old Mervin BEAR is charged with:
- Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm [CC 344 (1)(A)];
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88];
- Careless Storage of Firearm [CC 86 (2)] x2;
- Possession of an Unauthorized Firearm [CC 92 (1)]; and
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition [CC 95 (1)(A)]
BEAR made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning, Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
