On Wednesday September 11, 2024, at approximately 5:30 pm, police were dispatched to the area 8th Avenue to assist a female who appeared to be in distress asking for assistance. Police arrived and located the female and determined her not to be in distress.
Police transported the female to a residence where she would be allowed to stay with individuals known to her. While the police member was confirming the female was welcome at the residence, the female climbed into the driver’s seat of the patrol vehicle and attempted to put the vehicle in motion. The police member attempted to remove the female from the vehicle. After a short struggle she was able to put the vehicle in drive and leave the area.
The movements of the police car were followed via GPS. At approximately 6:05 pm the patrol car slow in traffic and was involved in a minor motor vehicle collision at Dewdney Avenue and McCarthy Boulevard.
The female was arrested and charged.
Eighteen year-old Sydney BUDDEN is charged with:
- Theft of a motor vehicle [Sec. 333.1(1) C.C.]
- Operate Conveyance Dangerous to the Public [Sec. 320.13(1) C.C]
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 [Sec. 355(A) C.C.}
BUDDEN will make her first appearance on these charges in Provincial court today, Thursday September 12, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
