On the afternoon of Thursday, February 15, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of Athol Street for the report of a firearms offence. Loud sounds consistent with gunshot were heard coming from a residence.
Police arrived and checked the residence, finding a recently broken window. Police entered the residence to search for injured persons and found four occupants, none of whom had sustained injury. A search revealed a shotgun, ammunition, and spent casings. The four occupants were arrested and after further investigation, charged for the following firearms offences:
Twenty-five year-old Sydney OBEY, is charged with:
- Carless Storage of a Firearm [CC 86(2)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)].
Thirty-one year-old Samantha Rachel Anne BIRD, is charged with:
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner [CC 244.2(1)(B)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)].
Twenty-four year-old Phoenix Pierce SANGWAIS, is charged with:
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner [CC 244.2(1)(B)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession Unauthorized [CC 92(1)]; and
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)].
Twenty-one year-old Elijah Sam TAPPAYOSATUM, is charged with:
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner [CC 244.2(1)(B)]; and
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [CC 91(1)].
The accused made their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning, February 16, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
